Gum reduction and reshaping for a confident smile

Gum contouring is a cosmetic dental procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the gums. It involves removing excess gum tissue to reveal more of the tooth’s surface, resulting in a balanced and symmetrical smile. This procedure is often performed for patients who have what is commonly referred to as a “gummy smile,” where the gums are excessively prominent when smiling.

Benefits of Gum Contouring

  • Smile-confidence boost
  • Change appearance of your teeth
  • Improve oral health
  • Reduce the effects of a gummy smile
  • Remove excessive gum tissue
  • Quick, minimally invasive procedure

Our treatment process

1. Your Consultation

Our gum specialist takes time to really understand your concerns and talk through your options with you.

2. Your Treatment

We’ll use Enjoyable Dentistry Technique™ pain-relief to ensure you’re comfortable, before using a laser or scalpel to carefully remove excess gum tissue and reshape the gums.

3. Aftercare

After undergoing gum contouring, patients are typically provided with aftercare guidance to ensure proper healing and minimise discomfort.

  • The procedure involves removing excess gum tissue and reshaping the gumline. It is usually performed using lasers or scalpels. Gum contouring can also help to address issues such as uneven or receding gums.

  • After undergoing gum contouring treatment, it is common for patients to experience some downtime. This is mainly due to the fact that the procedure involves reshaping and restructuring the gum line, which can result in swelling, discomfort, and minor bleeding. While the amount of downtime will vary from person to person, it is generally recommended you take it easy for a few days following the procedure.

  • Gum contouring is considered safe when performed by a qualified and experienced dentist or periodontist. However, as with any procedure, there are some risks involved. These can include infection, bleeding, and sensitivity. We’ll discuss the potential risks and benefits with you during your consultation.

  • Our innovative Enjoyable Dentistry Technique™ provides all our patients with calm, relaxing and pain-free treatment.

  • It takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete. However, this can be longer or shorter depending on the extent of the gum reshaping needed.

  • Following gum contouring, your smile should be more balanced and symmetrical, with less gum on display.

  • With proper care, regular dental check-ups, and good oral hygiene practices, the results of gum contouring can last for many years. However, it is important to note that gum tissue can continue to change over time, so periodic touch-ups may be necessary to maintain the desired results.

  • “I am an anxious patient and had a filling today with Dr Rubina and cannot believe my experience. I have never felt as relaxed as what I did today, Dr Rubina is lovely, she is very reassuring and I did not feel a thing. I felt like I had only been in there 5 mins not 45 mins. I have been to care dental a few times and will never go anywhere else now. The reception staff are also great, I always get called the day before my appointment and they put me at ease whilst in the waiting room. It’s a truly 5 star experience. Thank you.”

  • “Been going to this dentist for a little while now as used to have a phobia about dentists (As quite a lot of people do) but mine was gone/cured after my 1st visit here. Taran is a brilliant dentist and also great guy. He chats to you like a friend makes you very comfortable. He explains everything fully to you before and after treatment . The reception staff are absolutely lovely, incredibly welcoming and cheerful as are all the nurses that assist. I highly recommend to anyone.”
